To determine why incidence of mucormycosis infections was increasing in a large university hospital Belgium, we examined case data from 2000-2009. We found the increase not related to voriconazole use but most probably an high-risk patients, particularly those with underlying hematologic malignancies.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) recently has been shown to be an antecedent infection in Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), but the clinical spectrum of HEV-associated GBS is not yet documented, and diagnosing acute HEV can a challenge. To determine prevalence Belgian cohort, study GBS, discuss difficulties infection. This single-center, retrospective cohort was conducted between January 1, 2007, November 2015. Background Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) is a growing concern worldwide and surveillance needed. In Belgium, samples are sent to the National Reference Centre Sexually Transmitted Infections (NRC-STI) on voluntary basis representative or robust national AMR data lacking. Aim We aimed estimate occurrence resistant MG in Belgium. Methods Between July November 2022, frozen remnants MG-positive from 21 Belgian laboratories were analysed at NRC-STI. Macrolide...

Forensic microbiology is a relatively new discipline, born in part thanks to the development of advanced methodologies for detection, identification and characterization microorganisms, also relation growing impact infectious diseases iatrogenic origin. Indeed, increased application medical practices, such as transplants, which require immunosuppressive treatments, demand prosthetic installations, associated with an increasing threat antimicrobial resistance, have led rise number infections...

The aim of this verification study was to compare the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) In Tube (QFT-GIT). new QFT-Plus test contains an extra antigen tube which, according manufacturer additionally elicits a CD8+ T-cell response above CD4+ response. We assessed value in detecting recent latent tuberculosis infections.Between May 2015 and December 2016, 1031 subjects underwent QFT-GIT test. Overall agreement between both tests performance for different indications and/or immune states...

From early 2020, a high demand for SARS-CoV-2 tests was driven by several testing indications, including asymptomatic cases, resulting in the massive roll-out of PCR assays to combat pandemic. Considering dynamic viral shedding during course infection, report cycle threshold (Ct) values rapidly emerged. As Ct can be affected number factors, we considered that harmonization semi-quantitative results across laboratories would avoid potential divergent interpretations, particularly absence...
