Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma are common diseases with a heterogeneous distribution worldwide. Here, we present methods risk estimates for COPD from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, Risk Factors (GBD) 2015 study. The GBD study provides annual updates on deaths, prevalence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), summary measure fatal non-fatal outcomes, over 300 injuries, 188 countries 1990 to most recent year.
BackgroundThe number of individuals living with dementia is increasing, negatively affecting families, communities, and health-care systems around the world. A successful response to these challenges requires an accurate understanding disease burden. We aimed present first detailed analysis global prevalence, mortality, overall burden as captured by Global Burden Diseases, Injuries, Risk Factors (GBD) Study 2016, highlight most important messages for clinicians neurologists.MethodsGBD 2016...
The burden of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is rising globally, with substantial variation in levels and trends different countries regions. Understanding these geographical differences crucial for formulating effective strategies preventing treating IBD. We report the prevalence, mortality, overall IBD 195 territories between 1990 2017, based on data from Global Burden Diseases, Injuries, Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017.We modelled mortality due to using a standard Cause Death Ensemble...
The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2016 provides an up-to-date analysis the burden diarrhoea in 195 countries. This study assesses cases, deaths, aetiologies 1990-2016 how has changed people all ages.We modelled mortality with a Bayesian hierarchical modelling platform that evaluates wide range covariates model types on basis vital registration verbal autopsy data. We incidence compartmental meta-regression tool enforces association between prevalence,...
Government and nongovernmental organizations need national global estimates on the descriptive epidemiology of common oral conditions for policy planning evaluation. The aim this component Global Burden Disease study was to produce prevalence, incidence, years lived with disability from 1990 2017 by sex, age, countries. In addition, reports socioeconomic pattern in burden standard World Bank classification economies as well Socio-demographic Index. findings show that remain a substantial...
BackgroundPrevious congenital heart disease estimates came from few data sources, were geographically narrow, and did not evaluate throughout the life course. Completed as part of Global Burden Diseases, Injuries, Risk Factors Study 2017, this study aimed to provide comprehensive mortality, prevalence, disability by age for 195 countries territories 1990 2017.MethodsMortality generated aggregate non-fatal five subcategories (single ventricle single pathway anomalies; severe anomalies...
Brain and CNS cancers (collectively referred to as cancers) are a source of mortality morbidity for which diagnosis treatment require extensive resource allocation sophisticated diagnostic therapeutic technology. Previous epidemiological studies limited specific geographical regions or time periods, making them difficult compare on global scale. In this analysis, we aimed provide comparable comprehensive estimation the burden brain cancer between 1990 2016.We report means 95% uncertainty...
Background: Nonrheumatic valvular diseases are common; however, no studies have estimated their global or national burden. As part of the Global Burden Disease Study 2017, mortality, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD), degenerative mitral disease, other nonrheumatic were 195 countries territories from 1990 to 2017. Methods: Vital registration data, epidemiologic survey administrative hospital data used estimate burden using...
Achieving universal health coverage (UHC) requires financing systems that provide prepaid pooled resources for key services without placing undue financial stress on households. Understanding current and future trajectories of is vital progress towards UHC. We used historical data 188 countries from 1995 to 2015 estimate scenarios spending through 2040.We extracted gross domestic product (GDP) 2015, projected annual GDP, development assistance health, government, out-of-pocket, private 2040...
Background Past research has shown how fires, heat and hot substances are important causes of health loss globally. Detailed estimates the morbidity mortality from these injuries could help drive preventative measures improved access to care. Methods We used Global Burden Disease 2017 framework produce three main results. First, we produced results on incidence, prevalence, years lived with disability, deaths, life lost disability-adjusted 1990 for 195 countries territories. Second, analysed...
Background The Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) has historically produced estimates causes injury such as falls but not the resulting types injuries that occur. objective this study was to estimate global incidence, prevalence and years lived with disability (YLDs) due facial fractures leading injurious fracture. Methods We obtained results from GBD 2017. First, estimated incidence each cause (eg, falls), then proportion would result in fracture being most disabling injury. Incidence,...
Comparable estimates of health spending are crucial for the assessment systems and to optimally deploy resources. The methods used track continue evolve, but little is known about distribution across diseases. We developed improved by source, including development assistance health, and, first time, estimated HIV/AIDS on prevention treatment source funding, 188 countries. We collected published data domestic spending, from 1995 2015, a diverse set international agencies. tracked 1990 2017....
Historical cohort study. To determine objective outcomes of return to work (RTW), permanent disability, postsurgical complications, opiate utilization, and reoperation status for chronic low back pain subjects with lumbar fusion. Similarly, RTW status, utilization were also measured nonsurgical controls.A historical study workers' compensation (WC) arthrodesis randomly selected controls evaluate multiple has not been previously published.A total 725 fusion cases compared who from a pool WC...
Understanding how prevalence, incidence, and mortality of motor neuron diseases change over time by location is crucial for understanding the causes these disorders health-care planning. Our aim was to produce estimates disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) 195 countries territories from 1990 2016 as part Global Burden Diseases, Injuries, Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2016.
Suicide-related behaviors increasingly contribute to behavioral health crises in the United States (U.S.) and worldwide. The problem was worsened during COVID-19 pandemic, especially for youth young adults. Existing research suggests suicide-related are a consequence of bullying, while hopelessness is more distal consequence. This study examines association in-school electronic bullying with behavior feelings despair among adolescents, adjusted sociodemographic characteristics, abuse...
The purpose of the study was to examine extent which adults with diabetes engage in self-management practices lower their blood glucose levels and determine factors associated these engagements. analyzed data from 2017-2020 National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). sample included 1171 ages 20 older a laboratory A1C level 6.5% or greater. statistical analyses used descriptive, chi-square, logistic regression. revealed that 36% participants insulin, 28% visited specialist yearly....
Objectives: As empirical evidence about the efficacy and therapeutic benefits of integrative medicine grows insurance coverage services increases, patient demand for is likely to increase. Relatively few studies have looked at electronic health records (EHRs) data understand utilization within "real-world" practice settings. This study's objective describe sociodemographic care adults (age 18 or older) a large regional system from 2011 2022. Methods: The study design was longitudinal cohort...
We address the problem of coexistence among wireless networks in TV white space. present a standard independent framework to enable exchange information relevant for based on two mechanisms: centralized and distributed. Both mechanisms introduce use multiradio cluster-head equipment (CHE) as physical entity that acquires information, identifies opportunities, implements autonomous decisions. The major conceptual difference between them lies fact mechanism utilizes database(s) repository...
