Eukaryotic mRNA processing and export is mediated by various heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). Many of these hnRNPs are methylated on arginine residues. In the yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, predominant enzyme responsible for methylation Hmt1p. Hmt1p methylates both Npl3p Hrp1p, which shuttling involved in export. Here, we employ an vivo assay to show that important hnRNPs. Both Hrp1p fail exit nucleus cells lacking Hmt1p, overexpression enhances The a novel hnRNP-like...

The eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) is the only protein that contains hypusine [ N ε ‐(4‐amino‐2‐hydroxybutyl)lysine], which required for its activity. Hypusine formed by post‐translational modification of one specific lysine (Lys50 human eIF5A) deoxyhypusine synthase and hydroxylase. To investigate features eIF5A activity, we generated 49 mutations in eIF5A‐1, with a single amino acid substitution at highly conserved residues or N‐terminal C‐terminal truncations, tested...
