Abstract Background Patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) frequently have multiple comorbidities, which may influence survival but go under-recognised in clinical practice. We therefore report comorbidity, antifibrotic treatment use and of patients IPF observed the multi-national EMPIRE registry. Methods For this prospective cohort, demographics, causes death were analysed. Comorbidities noted by treating physician based on patient’s past medical history or as reported during...

Macrophages are among the infiltrate components of most malignant tumors. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) may secrete a variety humoral factors, which promote or inhibit tumor growth. In general, depending on their activation pathway, exhibit two different patterns phenotype, M1 M2. It is assumed that TAMs comprise pattern pleural effusion, frequent component cytological evaluation. this microenvironment, could be involved in development immunity. The phenotype represented and...

Fat-soluble vitamin deficiency remains a challenge in cystic fibrosis (CF), chronic pancreatitis, and biliary atresia. Liposomes cyclodextrins can enhance their bioavailability, thus this multi-center randomized placebo-controlled trial compared three-month supplementation of fat-soluble vitamins the form liposomes or to medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) pancreatic-insufficient CF patients. The daily doses were as follows: 2000 IU retinyl palmitate, 4000 D3, 200 RRR-α-tocopherol, µg K2...

Damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) molecules can initiate an immune response through Toll-like receptors (TLRs). DAMPs are released from cells as a to the extracellular danger and be by-products of tissue damage. In cancer microenvironment necrotic release debris which has potency become DAMPs. Non-small cell lung (NSCLC) is often accompanied by pleural effusion (PE), contains variety Surfactant protein A (SP-A) heat shock 70 (Hsp70) important in respiratory tract. The aim this study...

As life expectancy in cystic fibrosis (CF) increases, questions regarding its potential impact on cardiovascular health arise. Soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (sVCAM-1), P-selectin (sP-selectin) are proposed as biomarkers of disease. We aimed to: compare their concentrations clinically stable CF patients and healthy subjects (HS) verify whether they independently correlate with characteristics. Serum sVCAM-1 sP-selectin levels were measured using ELISA. was characterized using:...

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are present in the human lung microenvironment, and they may be involved local inflammatory process chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Chronic inflammation COPD induce immunogenic cell death of structural airway cells, causing release damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). DAMPs activate innate adaptive immune system. The relationship between MDSCs is poorly described available literature. Objectives. (1) Assessment MDSC percentage...

INTRODUCTION Myeloid‑derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have the potent ability to suppress T‑cell function, and are important in regulation of chronic inflammation carcinogenesis. MDSCs may influence local systemic carcinogenesis COPD; however, their presence bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) peripheral blood (PB) or relationship with clinical parameters COPD has not been studied yet. OBJECTIVES The aim study was assess BALF PB analyze between COPD. PATIENTS AND METHODS included 64 patients...

Macrophages in malignant pleural effusions (MPEs) demonstrate a promalignant phenotype. They release mediators, which are source of inflammation within the pleura. We established vitro model proving that macrophages isolated from affect cancer cells their pro- or anti-apoptotic activity via humoral mediators. Additionally, we measured concentrations selected transcription factors cells. Pleural can apoptosis intercellular mediators trigger different signal transductors The observed effect is...
