We assessed the determinants of mortality in infective endocarditis (IE), using national hospital discharge databases (HDD) 2011.IE stays were extracted from HDD, with a definition based on IE-related diagnosis codes. This has been according to Duke criteria by checking sample medical charts IE giving predictive positive value 86.1% (95% confidence interval (CI): 82.7% - 89.5%). The impact heart valve surgery survival studied if performed during initial stay, and over year follow-up. Risk...
Severe neurological deficit (SND) is a rare but major complication of pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis (PVO). We aimed to determine the risk factors and variables associated with clinical improvement for SND during PVO. This case–control study included patients without PVO-associated enrolled in prospective randomized antibiotic duration study, managed 8 French referral centers. Risk were determined by logistic regression. Ninety-seven cases, 297 controls included. epidural abscess [adjusted...
Abstract We report the case of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) encephalomyelitis in an immunocompetent patient, which was confirmed by viral amplification from cerebrospinal fluid. Cidofovir used followed ganciclovir because adverse effect to probenecid. The patient recovered. HHV-6 should be recognized as one causes encephalomyelitis.
Fluorodesoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT) has never been compared to Chest-Abdomen-Pelvis CT (CAPCT) in patients with a fever of unknown origin (FUO), inflammation (IUO) and episodic (EFUO) through prospective multicentre study. In this study, we investigated the diagnostic value PET/CT CAPCT these patients. The trial was performed between 1 May 2008 28 February 2013 7 French University Hospital centres. Patients who fulfilled FUO, IUO or EFUO criteria were included....
Vascular graft infection (VGI) remains a severe disease with high mortality and relapse rates. We performed retrospective single-center cohort study to highlight factors associated long-term all-cause in patients vascular infection. All hospitalized our facility over 10 years for VGI were included. was defined by the presence of or an aortic stent (stent fabric), 2 criteria among clinical, biological, imaging, microbiological elements favor VGI. The primary outcome mortality. Empirical...
Introduction
Our aim was to determine the impact of antimicrobial stewardship tools (AST) and COVID-19 pandemic on antibiotic consumption (AC).
 Methods
We used national software Consores AC in DDD / 1000 days hospitalization from 2017 2022 voluntary private hospitals France. The AST considered were 1/ internal guidelines 2/ list antibiotics with restricted access 3/ presence an referent or 4/ ID specialist 5/ proof annual meeting resistance. Institutions dedicated units...
Our aim was to determine the impact of antimicrobial stewardship tools (ASTs) and COVID-19 pandemic on antibiotic consumption (AC). We used national software Consores® AC in DDD/1000 days hospitalization from 2017 2022 voluntary private hospitals France. The ASTs considered were: 1. internal guidelines; 2. list antibiotics with restricted access; 3. presence an referent or 4. ID specialist; 5. proof annual meeting resistance. Institutions dedicated units for patients were specified. In 30...
BACKGROUND: PCR in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has become sole method used for diagnosis of herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE). Nevertheless, results may sometimes be false negative, and this situation other techniques useful. METHODS: 3 patients hospitalised meningoencephalitis with fever showed a negative result virus (HSV) their CSF. We then performed detection intrathecal anti-HSV immunoglobulins (IgGs) CSF analysed level relation to those serum, compared albumin. RESULTS: confirmed...
New diagnostic tools have been developed to improve the diagnosis of infectious encephalitis. Using a prospective cohort encephalitis patients, our objective was identify possible clusters patients with similar patterns among unknown cause (EUC) and describe what extent patient's initial presentation may be predictive etiology, particularly herpes simplex virus (HSV) varicella-zoster (VZV).The National Cohort Infectious Encephalitis in France is an ongoing study implemented 2016. Patients...
We report two cases of endocarditis due to Moraxella osloensis. Only one previous case such infection has been described. These infections occurred in immunocompromised patients (B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and kidney graft associated with Hodgkin's disease) both had a favourable outcome complete cure their infectious endocarditis. This bacterium could be an emerging pathogen revealed by MALDI-TOF. Indeed, its characterisation within the group use biochemistry-based methods is...
We report the first proven case of osteomyelitis due to Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. This infection occurred almost 20 years after traumatic inoculation bacterium, when patient was gored by one his cows. Diagnosis made bone biopsies, and treatment included rifampicin levofloxacin for 3 months.
