Using functional MRI (fMRI), we have studied the changes induced by performance of a complex sequential motor task in cortical areas six akinetic patients with Parkinson's disease and normal subjects. Compared subjects, exhibited relatively decreased fMRI signal rostral part supplementary area (SMA) right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, as previously shown PET studies. Concomitantly, same significant bilateral relative increase primary sensorimotor lateral premotor inferior parietal caudal...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficiency of mitoxantrone in multiple sclerosis. METHODS: Forty two patients with confirmed sclerosis, selected as having a very active disease on clinical and MRI criteria were randomised to receive either (20 mg intravenously (IV) monthly) methylprednisolone (1 g iv or alone over six months. In steroid group five dropped out due severe exacerbation. RESULTS: Blinded analysis data showed significantly more no new enhancing lesions compared group, (90% v 31%, P...

To integrate 3D MR spectroscopy imaging (MRSI) in the treatment planning system (TPS) for glioblastoma dose painting to guide simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). For sixteen patients, we have simulated three types of dosimetry plans, one conventional plan 60-Gy conformational radiotherapy (3D-CRT), IMRT and 72-Gy SIB-IMRT. All MRSI metabolic maps were into TPS, using normalization with color-space conversion threshold-based segmentation. The...

This large prospective cohort study recruited from 34 UK fetal medicine units to evaluate the use of prenatal whole genome sequencing in 610 fetuses with a structural abnormality detected on antenatal ultrasound scanning and no chromosomal abnormality. Overall, diagnostic genetic mutation was identified 8.5% fetuses, more commonly those multisystem anomalies (15.4%), skeletal or cardiac (11.1%). The lowest yield, only 3.2%, isolated increased nuchal translucency first trimester.

Crystallization trials at the Division of Structural Biology in Oxford are now almost exclusively carried out using a high-throughput workflow implemented Protein Production Facility. Initial crystallization screening is based on nanolitre-scale sitting-drop vapour-diffusion experiments (typically 100 nl protein plus reservoir solution per droplet) which use standard kits and 96-well plates. For 294 K barcoded plates entered into an automated storage system with fully integrated imaging...
