The T2K experiment observes indications of ν(μ) → ν(e) appearance in data accumulated with 1.43×10(20) protons on target. Six events pass all selection criteria at the far detector. In a three-flavor neutrino oscillation scenario |Δm(23)(2)| = 2.4×10(-3) eV(2), sin(2)2θ(23) 1 and sin(2)2θ(13) 0, expected number such is 1.5±0.3(syst). Under this hypothesis, probability to observe six or more candidate 7×10(-3), equivalent 2.5σ significance. At 90% C.L., are consistent 0.03(0.04) < 0.28(0.34)...
Several quantitative magnetic resonance (MR) measures are used to investigate multiple sclerosis (MS) in vivo. Precise investigation of the histopathological correlates such has, date, been limited. This study investigates relationship myelin content, axonal density, and gliosis with MR postmortem (PM) MS tissue. imaging (MRI) was performed on a 1.5T scanner T1-relaxation time (T1-RT) magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) maps were acquired fresh PM brain 20 subjects. Myelin counts, extent all...
The T2K experiment is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. Its main goal to measure the last unknown lepton sector mixing angle θ13 by observing νe appearance in νμ beam. It also aims make precision measurement of known parameters, Δm232 and sin22θ23, via disappearance studies. Other goals include various cross-section measurements sterile searches. uses an intense proton beam generated J-PARC accelerator Tokai, Japan, composed beamline, near detector complex (ND280), far...
We present a new measurement of the inclusive and differential production cross sections $J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ mesons $b$ hadrons in proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1960\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{G}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}$. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity $39.7\text{ }{\mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ collected by CDF run II detector. find section for all transverse momenta from 0 $20\text{ }\mathrm{G}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/c$ rapidity range $|y|<0.6$ be...
SummaryRecent MRI studies in multiple sclerosis have highlighted the potential importance of spinal cord atrophy (implicating axonal loss) development disability. However, techniques applied these initial poor reproducibility which limits their application serial monitoring patients. The aim this study was to develop a highly reproducible and accurate method for quantification atrophy. technique we describe demonstrates an intra-observer coefficient variation (scan-rescan) only 0.8%. When 60...
During rest, brain activity is synchronized between different regions widely distributed throughout the brain, forming functional networks. However, molecular mechanisms supporting connectivity remain undefined. We show that networks defined with resting-state magnetic resonance imaging can be recapitulated by using measures of correlated gene expression in a post mortem tissue data set. The set 136 genes we identify significantly enriched for ion channels. Polymorphisms this affect large...
To determine whether diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) can detect structural changes in normal-appearing white matter, and to distinguish between plaques of different pathologic severity, patients with MS.Conventional MRI detects lesions sensitively MS but has limited specificity. The water molecules brain tissue, most fully expressed mathematically by a quantity, reflects its intrinsic microstructure. It is now possible estimate the noninvasively human using MR DTI. This method unique...
We report the observation of a narrow state decaying into $J/\psi\pi^+\pi^-$ and produced in $220 pb^{-1}$ $\bar{p} p $ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV$ CDF II experiment. observe 730 \pm 90 decays. The mass is measured to be $3871.3 0.7 (stat) 0.4 (syst) MeV/c2$, with an observed width consistent detector resolution. This agreement recent by Belle Collaboration X(3872) meson.
Objective: Although early-onset conduct problems predict both psychiatric and health in adult life, little research has been done to index neural correlates of problems. Emerging suggests that a subgroup children with elevated levels callous-unemotional traits may be genetically vulnerable manifesting disturbances reactivity emotional stimuli indexing distress. Using functional MRI, the authors evaluated differences response between boys comparison boys. Method: Seventeen 13 equivalent age...
Serial proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), was carried out at 1–2 monthly intervals on eight patients with multiple sclerosis who presented evidence of a large acute cerebral white matter lesion. An MRS obtained from lesions (volumes interest 4–12 ml), which presentation showed gadolinium-diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid enhancement, and similar volumes normal appearing lateral to the lesion nearer scalp. Followup ranged 4 9 months (mean 6 months). Short echo spectra enhancing...
Abstract This work details the observation of non‐Gaussian apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) profiles in multi‐direction, diffusion‐weighted MR data acquired with easily achievable imaging parameters ( b ≈ 1000 s/mm 2 ). A technique is described for modeling profile ADC over sphere, which can capture effects that occur at, example, intersections different tissue types or white matter fiber tracts. When these are significant, common tensor model inappropriate, since it based on assumption...
The T2K experiment has observed electron neutrino appearance in a muon beam produced 295 km from the Super-Kamiokande detector with peak energy of 0.6 GeV. A total 28 events were detected an distribution consistent signal, corresponding to significance 7.3σ when compared 4.92±0.55 expected background events. In Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata mixing model, signal depends on several parameters including three angles θ12, θ23, θ13, mass difference Δm232 and CP violating phase δCP. this...
Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and MRI were carried out in II patients with multiple sclerosis who had clinical evidence of severe cerebellar involvement, 11 (of similar age disease duration) minimal or no signs disease. eight autosomal dominant ataxia (ADCA) healthy controls. In all subjects MRS was localized to white matter (volumes interest 3–6 ml). Apparent metabolite concentrations calculated using the fully relaxed water spectrum as an internal standard reference. The...
In a 2-year, placebo-controlled trial (the Natalizumab Safety and Efficacy in Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis [AFFIRM] study), involving 942 patients with relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS), natalizumab significantly reduced the relapse rate by 68% progression of sustained disability 42% vs placebo. We report effect on MRI measures from AFFIRM study. The number volume gadolinium (Gd)-enhancing, new or enlarging T2-hyperintense, T1-hypointense lesions brain parenchymal fraction were...
The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early universe, dynamics supernovae that produced heavy elements necessary for life, and whether protons eventually decay—these mysteries at forefront particle physics astrophysics are key to understanding evolution our its current state, eventual fate. Brain imaging studies of adults with psychopathy have identified structural and functional abnormalities in limbic prefrontal regions that are involved emotion recognition, decision-making, morality empathy. Among children conduct problems, a small subgroup presents callous-unemotional traits thought to be antecedents psychopathy. No brain study has examined this children. The present used voxel-based morphometry compare whole grey matter volumes concentrations boys elevated levels problems...
