Fifty patients with high-risk hematologic malignancies, underwent an unmanipulated haploidentical bone marrow transplantation (BMT), followed by posttransplantation high-dose cyclophosphamide (PT-CY): the myeloablative (MA) conditioning consisted of thiotepa, busulfan, fludarabine (n = 35), or total body irradiation (TBI), 15). The median age was 42 years (range, 18-66 years); 23 were in remission, 27 had active disease, and 10 receiving a second allograft. Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)...
We studied 459 consecutive patients with hematologic malignancies, median age 44 years (range, 15 to 71 years), who underwent transplantation grafts from identical sibling donors (SIB; n = 176), matched unrelated (MUD; 43), mismatched (mmUD; cord blood (UCB; 105) or HLA-haploidentical family (HAPLO; 92). Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis consisted of cyclosporine and methotrexate in the SIB recipients; antithymocyte globulin for MUD, mmUD, UCB post-transplantation...
Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) may be effective in aggressive forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) that fail to respond standard therapies. To evaluate the long-term outcomes patients who underwent AHSCT for treatment MS a large multicenter cohort.Data were obtained multicenter, observational, retrospective cohort study. Eligibility criteria receipt between January 1995 and December 2006 availability prespecified minimum data set comprising disease subtype at baseline;...

Objective:
To assess in multiple sclerosis (MS) the effect of intense immunosuppression followed by autologous hematopoietic stem cells transplantation (AHSCT) vs mitoxantrone (MTX) on disease activity measured MRI.
Methods:
We conducted a multicenter, phase II, randomized trial including patients with secondary progressive or relapsing-remitting MS, documented increase last year Expanded Disability Status Scale, spite conventional therapy, and presence one more...
The detection of cosmic neutrinos with energies above a teraelectronvolt (TeV) offers unique exploration into astrophysical phenomena1–3. Electrically neutral and interacting only by means the weak interaction, are not deflected magnetic fields rarely absorbed interstellar matter: their direction indicates that origin might be from farthest reaches Universe. High-energy can produced when ultra-relativistic cosmic-ray protons or nuclei interact other matter photons, observation could...
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are part of the bone marrow that provides signals supporting survival and growth bystander hematopoietic (HSC). MSC modulate also immune response, as they inhibit proliferation lymphocytes. In order to investigate whether can support T cells, we investigated capacity rescuing lymphocytes from cell death induced by different mechanisms. We observed prolong unstimulated apoptosis-prone thymocytes cultured under starving conditions. rescued activation (AICD)...
Over the last decade, hematopoietic stem cells transplantation (HSCT) has been increasingly used in treatment of severe progressive autoimmune diseases. We report a retrospective survey 183 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients, recorded database European Blood and Marrow Transplantation Group (EBMT). Transplant data were available from 178 patients who received an autologous graft. Overall, transplant related mortality (TRM) was 5.3% restricted to period 1995-2000, with no further TRM reported...
Background: Over recent years numerous patients with severe forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) refractory to conventional therapies have been treated intense immunosuppression followed by autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT). The clinical outcome and the toxicity AHSCT can be diverse, depending on various types conditioning protocols disease phase. Objectives: To report Italian experience all consecutive MS an intermediate intensity regimen, named BEAM/ATG, in period...
To determine whether autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (aHSCT) is able to induce durable disease remission in people with multiple sclerosis (MS), we analyzed the long-term outcomes after a large cohort of patients MS.To be included, minimum dataset (consisting age, MS phenotype, Expanded Disability Status Scale [EDSS] score at baseline, information on technology, and least 1 follow-up visit transplantation) was required. Two hundred ten were included (relapsing-remitting...
The number of long‐term survivors after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) has been increasing over the past years, and quality life (QOL) become an important end‐point. We studied 244 patients undergoing BMT to identify factors events influencing psychosocial outcome. Patients enrolled received Psychosocial Adjustment Illness Scale (PAIS) questionnaire assessing psychological social adjustment chronic illness or its sequelae. Eighty‐two per cent had a haematological disease....
Background: Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) has been recently utilized with encouraging results in patients poorly controlled MS. Objective: To determine severe cases of MS the effect ASCT on gadolinium (Gd)-enhanced MRI and to obtain information clinical course safety. Methods: In a cooperative study, 10 rapidly evolving secondary progressive were transplanted, after BEAM conditioning regimen (carmustine, etoposide,...
A 46 year woman with severe long-lasting SLE received an autologous bone marrow transplantation utilising CD34 + haematopoietic progenitors following a 3 log T-lymphocyte depletion. The immunosuppressive regimen (conditioning) consisted of 15mg/kg Thiotepa followed by 100 mg/kg cyclophosphamide over 2 d. Granulocytic recovery was aided G- CSF. post-transplant course uneventful, and good clinical immunologic remission (ANA negativisation) achieved. This is the first case having progenitor...
Platelet recovery after allogeneic haemopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) and predictive factors were analysed in 342 patients with haematological malignancies. All prepared cyclophosphamide plus total body irradiation, received an unmanipulated HSCT from HLA‐identical sibling ( n = 270), a matched unrelated donor 67) or identical twin 5). The source of cells was peripheral blood 15) bone marrow 327). Graft‐vs.‐host disease (GvHD) prophylaxis consisted cyclosporin A without methotrexate....
ABSTRACT The Aspergillus galactomannan test was performed on cerebrospinal fluid and serum samples from 5 patients with probable cerebral aspergillosis 16 control patients. Cerebrospinal levels were significantly higher in patients, most produced intrathecally. Comparison of values pulmonary showed significant overlapping. Detection may be diagnostic aspergillosis.
