Background: Disorders of gut–brain interaction (DGBIs) have a complex pathophysiology that is often characterized by relationship between food ingestion and triggering symptoms. Understanding the underlying mechanisms role nutrients as therapeutic target are rapidly evolving. Aims methods: We performed narrative review literature using following keywords, their acronyms, associations: nutrients, disorders interaction; functional dyspepsia; malabsorption; irritable bowel syndrome; diarrhea;...
Retrograde cricopharyngeus dysfunction (R-CPD) is a new clinical entity characterized by inability to belch and associated symptoms of loud gurgling noises, chest and/or abdominal pressure, bloating, excessive flatulence. R-CPD can be treated with botulinum toxin (BT) injection in the upper esophageal sphincter. We hereby report patient demographics, symptomatology, treatment results series consecutive patients who presented at our center.
Background: Swallowed topical corticosteroids (STC) are an effective first-line therapy for patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), both induction and maintenance of remission. All interventional trials STC used twice-daily dosing regimens. However, in other inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders, given once daily (OD) equal outcomes improved compliance. Goals: To evaluate the effectiveness budesonide treatment a once-daily schedule. Study: Retrospective analysis confirmed EoE,...
ABSTRACT Background and Study Aims Probe‐based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) enables real‐time microscopic visualization of the duodenal mucosa has shown acute food–triggered disruption epithelial barrier patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The interpretation recordings is subjective, unknown agreement rates. aim this study was to investigate intra‐ interobserver variability technique. Patients Methods An international multicenter performed, including pCLE from three...
Introduction: In functional dyspepsia, increased gut permeability, low-grade inflammation and altered sensorimotor function have been reported. Both stress corticotropin-release hormone(CRH) shown to increase small bowel permeability in a mast-cell dependent fashion. Moreover, eosinophil-derived CRH has implicated activation. The aim of this study was evaluate whether administration alters duodenal immune activation healthy volunteers(HVs). Methods: An intravenous bolus 100μg or placebo...
Porto-sinusoidal vascular liver disorder (PSVD) is a rare disease that occasionally requires transplantation (LT), despite usually presenting preserved function. There remains paucity of data pertaining to LT in PSVD. The aim was identify features associated with post-LT outcomes PSVD.Retrospective multicentre study 79 patients who received for PSVD.Median follow-up 37 (range 1-261) mo. Refractory ascites 24 (30%), hepatic encephalopathy 16 (20%), and hepatopulmonary syndrome 13 (16.3%) were...
Summary Background Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) have no effect on non‐acid reflux events which can continue to provoke gastro‐oesophageal disease (GERD) symptoms. Baclofen, a γ‐aminobutyric acid agonist, decrease but its symptomatic benefit in refractory GERD symptoms is understudied. Aims To assess the efficacy of baclofen 10 mg t.i.d. vs placebo as add‐on therapy PPI‐refractory symptoms, randomised, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study. Methods Patients with persisting typical b.i.d. PPI...
Abstract Background Gastrointestinal dysmotility is frequently suspected in patients with gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia, and ileus, the intensive care unit. Monitoring of gastric motility clinical practice remains challenging. A novel technology was developed to meet medical need for a widely available bedside tool monitor continuously. The VIPUN™ Gastric System (GMS) comprises nasogastric feeding tube intragastric balloon allow measuring contractions. Aims To compare performance VIPUN...
In alveolar echinococcosis (AE) radical surgery is still the only curative option. Because of slow, tumor-like growth with invasion into surrounding tissue, patients usually present late when resection preservation sufficient functional liver tissue no longer possible. end-stage AE, transplantation represents an option as palliative treatment for life-threatening complications. We a case AE complicated by hepato-pulmonary fistula treated curatively combined right and central diaphragm, part...
