The reinforcing effects of drugs abuse result from the complex interaction between pharmacological and conditioned responses. Here we evaluate how expectation affects response to stimulant drug methylphenidate in 25 cocaine abusers. (0.5 mg/kg, i.v.) on brain glucose metabolism (measured by [18F]deoxyglucose-positron emission tomography) its (self-reports effects) were evaluated four conditions: (1) expecting placebo receiving placebo; (2) methylphenidate; (3) (4) placebo. Methylphenidate...

Methylphenidate is the most commonly prescribed drug for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), yet its therapeutic mechanisms are poorly understood. The objective of this study was to assess if methylphenidate, by increasing dopamine (neurotransmitter involved in motivation) brain, would enhance saliency an academic task, making it more interesting.Healthy subjects (N=16) underwent positron emission tomography with [(11)C]raclopride (dopamine D(2) receptor radioligand that...

We developed a non-magnetic positron-emission tomography (PET) device based on the rat conscious animal PET that operates in small-animal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, thereby enabling us to carry out simultaneous PET/MRI studies. The detector comprises 12 blocks, each being 4 × 8 array of lutetium oxyorthosilicate crystals (2.22 2.22 5 mm(3)) coupled matching avalanche photodiode array. housed plastic case, form 38 mm inner diameter ring with an 18 axial extent. Anesthesia is currently required for positron emission tomography (PET) studies of the animal brain in order to eliminate motion artifacts. However, anesthesia profoundly affects neurological state animal, complicating interpretation PET data. Furthermore, it precludes use study during normal behavior. The rat conscious tomograph (RatCAP) designed need studies. It a miniaturized full-ring scanner that attached directly head, imaging nearly entire brain. RatCAP utilizes arrays 2 mm /spl...

The evolution of flight is a rare event in vertebrate history, and one that demands functional integration across multiple anatomical/physiological systems. neuroanatomical basis for such the role brain assumes behavioural transformations remain poorly understood. We make progress by (i) generating positron emission tomography (PET)-based map activity pigeons during rest flight, (ii) using these maps analysis (iii) interpreting data within macroevolutionary context shaped non-avian...

High-spin states in the odd-proton $^{119,121}\mathrm{I}$ isotopes have been studied following heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions using boron and carbon beams. Both prolate (\ensuremath{\gamma}=0\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}) oblate (\ensuremath{\gamma}=-60\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}) collective bands observed built on low-lying positive- negative-parity proton states, namely, ${\mathit{h}}_{11/2}$, ${\mathit{g}}_{9/2}$, ${\mathit{g}}_{7/2}$, ${\mathit{d}}_{5/2}$ orbitals....
