Since May 2022, an outbreak of monkeypox has been ongoing in non-endemic countries. We report four cases Italy young adult men reporting condomless sexual intercourse. The patients are good clinical condition with no need for specific antiviral drugs. Biological samples from seminal fluid were positive viral DNA. For many other viruses found semen there is evidence transmission. possibility transmission virus needs to be investigated.
IntroductionSeveral recent case reports have described common early chest imaging findings of lung pathology caused by 2019 novel Coronavirus (SARS-COV2) which appear to be similar those seen previously in SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV infected patients.ObjectiveWe present some remarkable the first two patients identified Italy with COVID-19 infection travelling from Wuhan, China. The follow-up X-Rays CT scans was also included, showing a progressive adult respiratory distress syndrome...
Abstract Background Aim of the present study is to describe characteristics COVID-19-related deaths and compare clinical phenotype course occurring in adults (<65 years) older (≥65 years). Method Medical charts 3,032 patients dying with COVID-19 Italy (368 aged < 65 years 2,664 ≥65 were revised extract information on demographics, preexisting comorbidities, in-hospital complications leading death. Results Older presented a higher number comorbidities compared those <65...
Data on SARS-CoV-2 vaccine immunogenicity in PLWH are currently limited. Aim of the study was to investigate according current CD4 T-cell count.
In order to investigate safety and immunogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine third dose in people living with HIV (PLWH), we analyze anti-RBD, microneutralization assay IFN-γ production 216 PLWH on ART advanced disease (CD4 count <200 cell/mm
Additional studies are required to identify risk factors for hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission health care workers after occupational exposure HCV.We conducted a matched case-control study in 5 European countries from 1 January 1991 through 31 December 2002. Case patients were who experienced seroconversion percutaneous or mucocutaneous HCV. Control subjects HCV-exposed did not experience and with case center period of exposure.Sixty 204 control included the study. All exposed...
Abstract Background Remdesivir is a prodrug of the nucleoside analogue GS-441524 and under evaluation for treatment SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. Objectives To evaluate pharmacokinetics remdesivir in plasma, bronchoalveolar aspirate (BAS) CSF two critically ill COVID-19 Methods was administered at 200 mg loading dose on first day followed by 12 days 100 Blood samples were collected immediately after (C0) 1 (C1) 24 h (C24) intravenous administration 3 until 9. BAS Days 4, 7 9 from both...
Objective To assess in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, treated with different immunosuppressive therapies, the induction of SARS-CoV-2-specific immune response after vaccination terms anti-region-binding-domain (RBD)-antibody- and T-cell-specific responses against spike, vaccine safety clinical impact on disease activity. Methods Health care workers (HCWs) RA having completed BNT162b2-mRNA last 2 weeks, were enrolled. Serological was evaluated by quantifying anti-RBD antibodies, while...
Data concerning the transmission of novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in paucisymptomatic patients are lacking. We report an Italian case disease 2019 with multiple biological samples positive for SARS-CoV-2. This was detected using World Health Organization protocol on cases and contact investigation. Current discharge criteria impact extra-pulmonary SARS-CoV-2 discussed.
Vaccination is the main public health measure to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission and hospitalization, a massive worldwide scientific effort resulted in rapid development of effective vaccines. This work aimed define dynamics humoral cell-mediated immune response cohort care workers (HCWs) who received two-dose BNT162b2-mRNA vaccination. The serological was evaluated by quantifying anti-RBD neutralizing antibodies. performed whole blood test Th1 cytokines (IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-2), produced spike...
Abstract Objectives Simple and standardized methods to establish correlates vaccine-elicited SARS-CoV-2 protection are needed. Methods An observational study on antibody response a mRNA vaccine (Comirnaty) was performed health care workers (V, n=120). Recovered COVID-19 patients (N, n=94) were used for comparison. Antibody evaluated by quantitative anti-receptor binding domain IgG (anti-RBD) commercial assay virus microneutralization test (MNT), in order threshold of anti-RBD units (BAU)...
Objective To assess the kinetics of humoral and cell-mediated responses after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with different immunosuppressive therapies. Methods Following vaccine completed schedule, health care workers (HCWs, n = 49) RA (n 35) were enrolled at 5 weeks (T1) 6 months (T6) first dose BNT162b2-mRNA vaccination. Serological response was assessed by quantifying anti-receptor-binding domain...
ObjectivesTo investigate whether Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) DNA is detected in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of subjects with (TB) or TB infection (TBI) living a low burden country.MethodsWe prospectively enrolled 57 TB-patients, 41 TBI-subjects and 39 controls Rome, Italy. PBMC were isolated, CD34+ CD34− immunomagnetic separated, was extracted digital PCR for IS6110 rpoB sequences used to detect Mtb subsets unfractionated PBMC.ResultsWe at copy number 4/30 (13%) 2/24 (8%)...
Exposure prevention is the primary strategy to reduce risk of occupational bloodborne pathogen infections in healthcare workers (HCW). HCWs should be made aware medicolegal and clinical relevance reporting an exposure, have ready access expert consultants receive appropriate counselling, treatment follow-up. Vaccination against hepatitis B virus (HBV), demonstration immunisation before employment are strongly recommended. with postvaccinal anti-HBs levels, 1-2 months after vaccine...
Background and Objective Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection represents a main cause of morbidity mortality among immunocompromised patients. This study describes fatal epidemic P. that occurred in hematology unit Italy. Methods Retrospective cohort study, prospective surveillance, auditing, extensive testing on healthcare workers environmental investigation were performed to define the dynamics potential causes transmission. RAPD, macrorestriction analyses sequence typing used relationships...
