The MINERvA experiment is designed to perform precision studies of neutrino-nucleus scattering using $\nu_\mu$ and ${\bar\nu}_\mu$ neutrinos incident at 1-20 GeV in the NuMI beam Fermilab. This article presents a detailed description \minerva detector describes {\em ex situ} techniques employed characterize monitor its performance. comprised finely-segmented scintillator-based inner tracking region surrounded by electromagnetic hadronic sampling calorimetry. upstream portion includes planes...
Macrophages are important players in the maintenance of tissue homeostasis1. Perivascular and leptomeningeal macrophages reside near central nervous system (CNS) parenchyma2, their role CNS physiology has not been sufficiently well studied. Given continuous interaction with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) strategic positioning, we refer to these cells collectively as parenchymal border (PBMs). Here demonstrate that PBMs regulate CSF flow dynamics. We identify a subpopulation express high levels...
This White Paper presents the science case of an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), focused on structure and interactions gluon-dominated matter, with intent to articulate it broader nuclear community. It was commissioned by managements Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) Thomas Jefferson Accelerator Facility (JLab) objective presenting a summary scientific opportunities goals EIC as follow-up 2007 NSAC Long Range plan. document is culmination community-wide effort in following series workshops...
We report a study of muon neutrino charged-current quasi-elastic events in the segmented scintillator inner tracker MINERvA experiment running NuMI beam at Fermilab. The were selected by requiring {\mu}^- and low calorimetric recoil energy separated from interaction vertex. measure flux-averaged differential cross-section, d{\sigma}/dQ^2, particle content final state. Deviations are found between measured d{\sigma}/dQ^2 expectations model independent nucleons relativistic Fermi gas. also...
Interaction cross sections and charged pion spectra in p+C interactions at 31 GeV/c were measured with the large acceptance NA61/SHINE spectrometer CERN SPS. These data are required to improve predictions of neutrino flux for T2K long baseline oscillation experiment Japan. A set collected during first run 2007 an isotropic graphite target a thickness 4% nuclear interaction length was used analysis. The inelastic production 257.2 +- 1.9 8.9 mb 229.3 9.0 mb, respectively. Inclusive negatively...
We have isolated muon anti-neutrino charged-current quasi-elastic interactions occurring in the segmented scintillator tracking region of MINERvA detector running NuMI neutrino beam at Fermilab. measure flux-averaged differential cross-section, d{\sigma}/dQ^2, and compare to several theoretical models scattering. Good agreement is obtained with a model where nucleon axial mass, M_A, set 0.99 GeV/c^2 but vector form factors are modified account for observed enhancement, relative free case,...
We measured the triple coincidence A(e,e'np) and A(e,e'pp) reactions on carbon, aluminum, iron, lead targets at Q2 > 1.5 (GeV/c)2, xB 1.1 missing momentum 400 MeV/c. This was first direct measurement of both proton-proton (pp) neutron-proton (np) short-range correlated (SRC) pair knockout from heavy asymmetric nuclei. For all nuclei, average to reduced cross-section ratio is about 6%, in agreement with previous indirect measurements. Correcting for Single-Charge Exchange effects decreased...
Spectra of positively charged kaons in p+C interactions at 31 GeV/c were measured with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer CERN SPS. The analysis is based on full set data collected 2007 a graphite target thickness 4% nuclear interaction length. Interaction cross sections and pion spectra already using same data. These new measurements combination published ones are required to improve predictions neutrino flux for T2K long baseline oscillation experiment Japan. In particular, knowledge kaon...
Single neutral pion production via muon antineutrino charged-current interactions in plastic scintillator (CH) is studied using the \minerva detector exposed to NuMI low-energy, wideband beam at Fermilab. Measurement of this process constrains models nuclei, which important because neutral-current analog a background for $\bar{\nu}_e$ appearance oscillation experiments. The differential cross sections $\pi^0$ momentum and angle, events with single observed no charged pions, are presented...
Abstract Neurofilament light chain, a putative measure of neuronal damage, is measurable in blood and CSF predictive cognitive function individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. There has been limited prior work linking neurofilament functional connectivity, no investigated associations connectivity autosomal dominant Here, we assessed relationships between light, cognition, cross-sectional sample 106 disease mutation carriers 76 non-carriers. We employed an innovative network-level enrichment...
Abstract Background PSEN1, PSEN2, and APP mutations cause Alzheimer’s disease (AD) with an early age at onset (AAO) progressive cognitive decline. PSEN1 are more common generally have earlier AAO; however, certain a later AAO, similar to those observed in PSEN2 . Methods We examined whether endotypes exist across these AAO (~ 55 years) using hiPSC-derived neurons from familial (FAD) patients harboring A79V , N141I V717I mechanistically characterized by integrating RNA-seq ATAC-seq. Results...
We review recent progress in the study of parton propagation, interaction and fragmentation both cold hot strongly interacting matter. Experimental highlights on high-energy hadron production deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering, proton-nucleus heavy-ion collisions, as well Drell-Yan processes hadron-nucleus collisions are presented. The existing theoretical frameworks for describing in-medium energetic partons space-time evolution their into hadrons discussed confronted to experimental...
Abstract We present the first beam test results with centimeter-scale AC-LGAD strip sensors, using Fermilab Test Beam Facility and sensors manufactured by Brookhaven National Laboratory. Sensors of this type are envisioned for applications that require large-area precision 4D tracking coverage economical channel counts, including timing layers Electron Ion Collider (EIC), space-based particle experiments. A survey sensor designs is presented, aim optimizing electrode geometry spatial...
The electromagnetic decay $\Sigma^0(1385) \to \Lambda \gamma$ was studied using the CLAS detector at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. A real photon beam with a maximum energy of 3.8 GeV incident on proton target, producing an exclusive final state $K^+\Sigma^{*0}$. We report widths ratio \Lambda\gamma$/ \Lambda\pi^0$ = $1.42 \pm 0.12(\text{stat})_{-0.07}^{+0.11}(\text{sys})$%. This is larger than most theoretical predictions by factors ranging from 1.5-3, but consistent only...
Using a simple geometric framework with realistic nuclear density distribution, we fit published HERMES data to determine fundamental properties of hadronization using the medium as spatial analyzer. Our approach uses transverse momentum broadening observable and hadronic multiplicity ratio; simultaneous two different observables strongly constrains outcome. known sizes target nuclei, extract color lifetime, finding z$\mathrm{_h}$-dependent range values from 2 8 fm/c for these data. We also...
