Cases of human monkeypox are rarely seen outside west and central Africa. There few data regarding viral kinetics or the duration shedding no licensed treatments. Two oral drugs, brincidofovir tecovirimat, have been approved for treatment smallpox demonstrated efficacy against in animals. Our aim was to describe longitudinal clinical course a high-income setting, coupled with dynamics, any adverse events related novel antiviral therapies.

Abstract Preliminary clinical data indicate that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is associated with neurological and neuropsychiatric illness. Responding to this, a weekly virtual disease 19 (COVID-19) neurology multi-disciplinary meeting was established at the National Hospital, Queen Square, in early March 2020 order discuss begin understand presentations patients suspected COVID-19-related disorders. Detailed paraclinical were collected from cases...

Multiple severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines show protective efficacy, which is most likely mediated by neutralizing antibodies recognizing the viral entry protein, spike. Because new SARS-CoV-2 variants are emerging rapidly, as exemplified B.1.1.7, B.1.351, and P.1 lineages, it critical to understand whether antibody responses induced infection with original virus or current remain effective. In this study, we evaluate neutralization of a series mutated...

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can cause deadly healthcare-associated outbreaks. In a major London teaching hospital, 66 of 435 (15%) COVID-19 inpatient cases between 2 March and 12 April 2020 were definitely or probably hospital-acquired, through varied transmission routes. The case fatality was 36%. Nosocomial infection rates fell following comprehensive prevention control measures.

Most reported cases of human monkeypox occur in Central and West Africa, where the causing virus is endemic. We describe identification public health response to an imported case African from Nigeria United Kingdom (UK) May 2021. Secondary transmission index occurred within family another adult a toddler. Concurrent COVID-19-related control measures upon arrival at hospital, facilitated detection limited number potential contacts.

Abstract Background Routine asymptomatic testing using RT-PCR of people who interact with vulnerable populations, such as medical staff in hospitals or care workers homes, has been employed to help prevent outbreaks among populations. Although the peak sensitivity can be high, probability detecting an infection will vary throughout course infection. The effectiveness routine therefore depend on frequency and how PCR detection varies over time. Methods We fitted a Bayesian statistical model...

Abstract Since its first identification in Scotland, over 1,000 cases of unexplained paediatric hepatitis children have been reported worldwide, including 278 the UK 1 . Here we report an investigation 38 cases, 66 age-matched immunocompetent controls and 21 immunocompromised comparator participants, using a combination genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic immunohistochemical methods. The scale of the 2022 global mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) outbreak has been unprecedented. In less than 6 months, non-endemic countries have reported more 67 000 cases a disease that had previously rare outside Africa. Mortality but hospital admission relatively common. We aimed to describe clinical and laboratory characteristics outcomes individuals admitted with associated complications, including tecovirimat recipients.
