Abstract Reports of ChAdOx1 vaccine–associated thrombocytopenia and vascular adverse events have led to some countries restricting its use. Using a national prospective cohort, we estimated associations between exposure first-dose or BNT162b2 vaccination hematological using nested incident-matched case-control study confirmatory self-controlled case series (SCCS) analysis. An association was found idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) (0–27 d after vaccination; adjusted rate ratio (aRR)...

BackgroundCurrent UK vaccination policy is to offer future COVID-19 booster doses individuals at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19, but it still uncertain which groups the population could benefit most. In response an urgent request Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, we aimed identify factors for severe outcomes (ie, COVID-19-related hospitalisation or death) in who had completed their primary schedule received first vaccine.MethodsWe constructed prospective cohorts...

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common cause of morbidity and mortality has significant heritability. We carried out genome-wide association discovery study 1866 patients with AAA 5435 controls replication promising signals (lead SNP p value < 1 × 10−5) in 2871 additional cases 32,687 performed further follow-up 1491 11,060 controls. In the study, nine loci demonstrated (p 10−5). sample, lead at one these loci, rs1466535, located within intron low-density-lipoprotein receptor-related...

The Delta (B.1.617.2) variant was the predominant UK circulating SARS-CoV-2 strain between May and December 2021. How infection compares with previous variants is unknown. This prospective observational cohort study assessed symptomatic adults participating in app-based COVID Symptom Study who tested positive for from 26 to July 1, 2021 (Delta overwhelmingly variant), compared (1:1, age- sex-matched) individuals presenting 28, 2020 6, (Alpha (B.1.1.7) variant). Several countries restricted the administration of ChAdOx1 to older age groups in 2021 over safety concerns following case reports and observed versus expected analyses suggesting a possible association with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). Large datasets are required precisely estimate between Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination CVST due extreme rarity this event. Enteroviruses are a common cause of seasonal childhood infections. The vast majority enterovirus infections mild and self-limiting, although neonates can sometimes develop severe disease. Myocarditis is rare complication infection. Between June 2022 April 2023, twenty cases neonatal enteroviral myocarditis caused by coxsackie B viruses were reported in the United Kingdom. Sixteen required critical care support two died. Enterovirus PCR on whole blood was most sensitive diagnostic test. We...

Since the end of November 2023, European Mortality Monitoring Network (EuroMOMO) has observed excess mortality in Europe. During weeks 48 2023–6 2024, preliminary results show a substantially increased rate 95.3 (95% CI: 91.7–98.9) all-cause deaths per 100,000 person-years for all ages. This is seen adults aged 45 years and older, coincides with widespread presence COVID-19, influenza respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) many countries during 2023/24 winter season.
