Abstract The Physics Beyond Colliders initiative is an exploratory study aimed at exploiting the full scientific potential of CERN’s accelerator complex and infrastructures through projects complementary to LHC other possible future colliders. These will target fundamental physics questions in modern particle physics. This document presents status proposals presented framework Standard Model working group, explore their reach impact that CERN could have next 10–20 years on international landscape.
A setup of two bent crystals and a fixed target in the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) could enable study magnetic (MDM) electric (EDM) dipole moments short-lived charm baryons with unprecedented accuracy. At core experiment is crystal which particles interest, such as $\Lambda_c^+$ $\Xi_c^+$ particles, can be confined between crystalline planes, inducing deflection that enforces spin precession measurable by detectors. The requires inside LHC vacuum to create charmed baryons. first serves...
Permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) of fundamental particles provide powerful probes for physics beyond the Standard Model. We propose to search EDM strange and charm baryons at LHC, extending ongoing experimental program on neutron, muon, atoms, molecules light nuclei. The $$\varLambda $$ baryons, selected from weak decays produced in $$p collisions can be determined by studying spin precession magnetic field detector tracking system. A test $$C\!PT$$ symmetry performed measuring...
We propose a unique program of measurements electric and magnetic dipole moments charm, beauty strange charged baryons at the LHC, based on phenomenon spin precession channeled particles in bent crystals. Studies crystal channeling positively- negatively-charged are presented, along with feasibility studies expected sensitivities for proposed experiment using layout LHCb detector.
Physics Beyond Colliders is an exploratory study aimed at exploiting the full scientific potential of CERN's accelerator complex and its infrastructure in next two decades through projects complementary to LHC, HL-LHC other possible future colliders. These should target fundamental physics questions that are similar spirit those addressed by high-energy colliders, but require different types beams experiments. A kick-off workshop held September 2016 identified a number areas interest working...
Electromagnetic dipole moments of short-lived particles are sensitive to physics within and beyond the Standard Model particle but have not been accessible experimentally date. To perform such measurements it has proposed exploit spin precession channeled in bent crystals at LHC. Progress that enables first measurement charm baryon is reported. In particular, design characterization on beam silicon germanium crystal prototypes, optimization experimental setup, advanced analysis techniques...
A novel method for the direct measurement of elusive magnetic and electric dipole moments τ lepton is presented. The experimental approach relies on production τ^{+} leptons from D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ} decays, originating in fixed-target collisions at LHC. sample polarized kinematically selected subsequently channeled a bent crystal. are measured by determining rotation spin-polarization vector induced intense electromagnetic field between crystal atomic planes. technique discussed along with...
Symmetry transformations have been proven a bedrock tool for understanding the nature of particle interactions, formulating and testing fundamental theories. Based on up to now unbroken CPT symmetry, violation CP symmetry between matter antimatter by weak discovered in decay kaons 1964 observed more recently 2001 B mesons, strongly suggests that behavior these particles under interactions must also be asymmetric time reversal T. However, until recent years there has not direct detection...
The LHCb experiment at CERN is undergoing an upgrade in preparation for the Run 3 data taking period of LHC. As part this trigger moving to a fully software implementation operating LHC bunch crossing rate. We present evaluation CPU-based and GPU-based first stage High Level Trigger. After detailed comparison both options are found be viable. This document summarizes performance details these options, outcome which has led choice as baseline.
This report summarises the main findings of QCD Working Group in CERN Physics Beyond Colliders Study.
The radiative decays of $b$-baryons facilitate the direct measurement photon helicity in $b\to s\gamma$ transitions thus serving as an important test physics beyond Standard Model. In this paper we analyze complete angular distribution ground state $b$-baryon ($\Lambda_{b}^{0}$ and $\Xi_{b}^{-}$) to multibody final states assuming initially polarized sample. Our sensitivity study suggests that polarization asymmetry can be extracted a good accuracy along with simultaneous initial...

A general discussion of nonrelativistic multichannel scattering for nonlocal potentials is presented. The approach based on the extensive use Fredholm determinants that are associated with integral equations occurring at various points theory. Special attention paid to situations where confining present, as in quark models hadron-hadron interactions. Some standard results theory local and one-channel ones generalized this context, including Levinson's theorem.
