The Vertex Locator (VELO) is a silicon microstrip detector that surrounds the proton-proton interaction region in LHCb experiment. performance of during first years its physics operation reviewed. system operated vacuum, uses bi-phase CO2 cooling system, and sensors are moved to 7 mm from LHC beam for data taking. stability these characteristic features described, details material budget given. calibration timing processing algorithms implemented FPGAs described. fully characterised. have...
Background: Emergency medicine physician compensation models often have a productivity component based on the relative value unit. The primary goal of this study was to determine if implementing critical care billing education through both lectures and individual resident feedback as formal part emergency residency curriculum improved among residents. Methods: This prospective, pre post, educational intervention, cohort in an academic department. period from July 2019 June 2021. Critical...
The R&D mission of the Accelerator Neutrino Neutron Interaction Experiment (ANNIE) is described in detail. ANNIE is: (1) an important measurement neutrino-nucleus interactions focusing specifically on neutron production, and (2) effort focused using new photodetector technology chemical additives to make advanced water-base neutrino detectors. experiment consists a small Water Cherenkov detector, instrumented with both conventional photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) Large Area Picosecond...
The LHCb experiment at CERN is undergoing an upgrade in preparation for the Run 3 data taking period of LHC. As part this trigger moving to a fully software implementation operating LHC bunch crossing rate. We present evaluation CPU-based and GPU-based first stage High Level Trigger. After detailed comparison both options are found be viable. This document summarizes performance details these options, outcome which has led choice as baseline.
Abstract Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) are traditionally an integral part of large underground experiments as they measure the light emission from particle interactions within enclosed detection media. The BUTTON experiment will utilise around 100 PMTs to response different media suitable for rare event searches. A subset low-radioactivity 10-inch Hamamatsu R7081 were tested, characterised, and compared manufacture certification. This manuscript describes laboratory tests analysis gain,...
The Accelerator Neutrino Neutron Interaction Experiment (ANNIE) aims to make a unique measurement of neutron yield from neutrino-nucleus interactions and perform R&D for the next generation water-based neutrino detectors. In this paper, we characterize beam-induced backgrounds in experimental hall at Fermi National Laboratory. It is shown that background levels are sufficiently low allow stage experiment proceed. These measurements relevant other Booster Beam (BNB) experiments located...
We report on a measurement of the flavor-specific $B^0_s$ lifetime and $D^-_s$ using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies 7 8 TeV, collected by LHCb experiment corresponding to 3.0 $fb^{−1}$ integrated luminosity. Approximately 407 000 $B^0_s \to D^{(*)-}_s \mu^+\nu_{\mu}$ decays are partially reconstructed in $K^+ K^- \pi^- \mu^+$ final state. The natural widths determined using, as reference, kinematically similar same resulting differences between $B^0$ mesons $D^-$...
