Cross-sectional imaging regularly results in incidental discovery of adrenal tumours, requiring exclusion adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). However, differentiation is hampered by poor specificity characteristics. We aimed to validate a urine steroid metabolomics approach, using profiling as the diagnostic basis for ACC.
Background: Benign adrenal tumors are commonly discovered on cross-sectional imaging. Mild autonomous cortisol secretion (MACS) is regularly diagnosed, but its effect cardiometabolic disease in affected persons ill defined. Objective: To determine burden and steroid excretion with benign without MACS. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: 14 endocrine secondary tertiary care centers (recruitment from 2011 to 2016). Participants: 1305 prospectively recruited tumors. Measurements: Cortisol...

Given the fact that a large number of radiological examinations using iodine-based contrast media (ICM) are performed in everyday practice, clinicians should be aware potential ICM-induced thyroid dysfunction (TD). ICM can induce hyperthyroidism (Hyper) or hypothyroidism (Hypo) due to supraphysiological concentrations iodine solution. The prevalence TD varies from 1 15%. Hyper is predominantly found regions with deficiency and patients underlying nodular goiter latent Graves’ disease....
Eye muscle (EM) and retroorbital fat tissue are two major sites of involvement in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO). Lymphocytic infiltration these tissues is a prominent histological feature TAO. We have investigated the cytokine gene profiles EM orbital (OF) from patients with Total RNA was isolated 14 OF 29 Cytokine expression assessed by RT-PCR using paired primers for interferon γ (IFNγ), tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, CD4, CD8,...
Susceptibility to Graves' disease (GD) is a significant extent determined by genetic factors of which the best known are those associated with HLA and CTLA4 locus. Recently, two studies on British Caucasians reported that single nucleotide polymorphism, 1858 C > T in PTPN22, encoding Arg620Trp lymphoid protein tyrosine phosphatase (LYP), negative regulator T-cell activation, increases risk GD. The purpose our study was investigate whether PTPN22 'T' allele GD and/or its subsets, defined...
Improving accuracy of the available predictive DNA methods is important for their wider use in routine forensic work. Information on age process identification an unknown individual may provide hints that can speed up investigation. methylation markers have been demonstrated to accurate estimation forensics, but there growing evidence be modified by various factors including diseases. We analyzed profile five from different genes (ELOVL2, C1orf132, KLF14, FHL2, and TRIM59) used prediction...
W ostatnim czasie obserwuje się większe zainteresowanie rzadkimi nowotworami neuroendokrynnymi żołądkowo-jelitowo-trzustkowymi (GEP NEN). Wykrywalność nowotworów neuroendokrynnych w ostatnich latach wzrosła. Ponad 50% GEP NEN stanowią rakowiaki, które najczęściej są znajdowane przypadkowo podczas zabiegu operacyjnego jelicie cienkim i wyrostku robaczkowym oraz momencie rozpoznania przerzutów odległych, głównie do wątroby. Istnieje konieczność współdziałania specjalistów różnych dziedzin...
A wide use of imaging techniques results in more frequent diagnosis adrenal incidenataloma. To analyse the current state knowledge on incidentaloma adults order to prepare practical management recommendations.Following a discussion, Polish Society Endocrinology expert working group have analysed available data and summarised analysis form recommendations.Unenhanced computed tomography (CT) may be recommended as an initial assessment examination helpful differentiation between adenomas...
Continuous progress in the diagnostics and treatment of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), emerging results new clinical trials, guidelines issued by medical societies have prompted experts from Polish Network Neuroendocrine Tumours to update 2017 recommendations regarding management neoplasms. This article presents general for NENs, resulting findings participating Fourth Round Table Conference, entitled "Polish Guidelines Diagnostics Treatment Neoplasms gastrointestinal tract, Żelechów, June...
OBJECTIVE: The development and severity of Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO) may result from a complex interplay genetic environmental factors. aim this study was to investigate the association cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4) gene polymorphism non-genetic factors (age, sex, cigarette smoking) with GO in two different populations, Polish-Caucasians Japanese. DESIGN: We investigated distribution CTLA-4 A49G 264 Caucasian patients disease (GD), which 95 had clinically evident...
Progress in the diagnostics and therapy of gastro-entero-pancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN), published results new randomised clinical trials, guidelines issued by European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) have led Polish Network Tumours to update 2013 regarding management these neoplasms. We present general recommendations for NENs, developed experts during Third Round Table Conference - Diagnostics neoplasms: view current recommenda-tions, which took place December 2016...
Significant advances have been made in thyroid cancer research recent years, therefore relevant clinical guidelines need to be updated. The current Polish "Diagnostics and Treatment of Thyroid Carcinoma" formulated at the "Thyroid Cancer Other Malignancies Endocrine Glands" conference held Wisła November 2015 [1].
Observational studies have demonstrated that variation in normal range thyroid function is associated with major cardiovascular risk factors, including dyslipidemia, hypertension, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and obesity. As observational are prone to residual confounding, reverse causality, selection bias, we used a Mendelian randomization (MR) approach investigate whether these associations causal or not.
Background: Observational studies suggest that even minor variations in thyroid function are associated with the risk of mood disorders, including major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar (BD). However, it is unknown whether these associations causal or not. We used a Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to investigate effects thyrotropin (TSH) free thyroxine (fT4) levels on MDD BD risk. Materials Methods: performed two-sample MR analyses using data from largest publicly available...
Objective: Vitamin D-binding protein (DBP) genetic variants have an influence on vitamin D status and, therefore, they may contribute to the development of autoimmune diseases. In this case-control study, we investigated association DBP gene polymorphisms with susceptibility Graves' disease (GD) in a Polish population. Furthermore, analyzed distribution genotypes GD patients divided according clinical (gender, age onset, ophthalmopathy, family history, smoking habits) and parameters (CTLA4...
The presented comprehensive review of current knowledge about genetic factors predisposing to Graves disease (GD) put emphasis on functional significance observed associations. In particular, we discuss recent efforts aimed at refining diseases associations found within the HLA complex and implicating class I as well HLADPB1 loci. We summarize data regarding non-HLA genes such PTPN22, CTLA4, CD40, TSHR TG which have been extensively studied in respect their role GD. findings variants FCRL3...
Abstract Objectives Autoimmune thyroid diseases ( ATD s) frequently accompany myasthenia gravis MG ) and may influence its course. We aimed to determine the association impact of with early‐ (<50 years), late‐onset , or thymoma‐ . Materials Methods Prevalence was measured in a cross‐sectional study 343 consecutive patients (236 F, 107 M) aged 4–89 years; 83.8% were seropositive, 2.9%, anti‐Mu SK antibodies detected. Concentrations antithyroid peroxidase antibodies, antithyroglobulin...
Over the past several years new evidence on management of hypothyroidism has emerged, which influenced recommendations from professional bodies. The presentation hypothyroid patients also changed, and cases are increasingly diagnosed by indiscriminate screening, often identifying with minor biochemical disturbances. Little is known about physician responses attitudes to this changing landscape. THESIS (Treatment Hypothyroidism in Europe Specialists: an International Survey) a large-scale...
Background. Hypothyroidism is common, however, aspects of its treatment remain controversial. Our survey aimed at documenting choices European thyroid specialists and exploring how patients' persistent symptoms, clinician demographics, geo-economic factors relate to choices. Methods. 17,247 from 28 countries were invited participate in an online questionnaire survey. The included respondent demographic data for hypothyroid patients with symptoms. Geo-economic each country the analyses....
