BackgroundSince the beginning of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, there has been increasing urgency to identify pathophysiological characteristics leading severe clinical course in patients infected with acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Human leukocyte antigen alleles (HLA) have suggested as potential genetic host factors that affect individual immune response SARS-CoV-2. We sought evaluate this hypothesis by conducting a multicenter study using HLA...

CANTOS reported reduced secondary atherothrombotic events in patients with residual inflammatory risk treated the inhibitory anti-IL-1β antibody, Canakinumab. Yet, mechanisms that underlie this benefit remain elusive. Recent work has implicated formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETosis) arterial thrombosis. Hence, present study explored potential link between IL-1β, NETs, and tissue factor (TF)—the key trigger coagulation cascade—in atherothrombosis. To end, ST-elevation...

Abstract Aims We aimed to investigate the association of clinically overt and silent brain lesions with cognitive function in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. Methods results enrolled 1227 AF patients a prospective, multicentre cohort study (Swiss-AF). Patients underwent standardized magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at baseline after 2 years. quantified new small non-cortical infarcts (SNCIs) large or cortical (LNCCIs), white matter (WML), microbleeds (Mb). Clinically, were defined as...

Background Women are overrepresented among individuals with post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC). Biological (sex) as well sociocultural (gender) differences between women and men might account for this imbalance, yet their impact on PASC is unknown. Aim We assessed the sex gender in a Swiss population. Method Our multicentre prospective cohort study included 2,856 (46% women, mean age 44.2 ± 16.8 years) outpatients hospitalised patients PCR-confirmed infection. Results Among...

The authors evaluated a site-independent telemedicine system. Telemedicine may be limited by the need for fixed connectivity. Wireless and technologies eliminate this limitation. Twenty-five stroke patients underwent evaluations remote bedside examiners. Ten of 15 (67%) NIH Stroke Scale 9 11 (82%) Modified items showed excellent interrater reliability. Spearman correlations were ≥0.93. This Internet system is reliable valid. Further studies should assess its use in acute stroke.

Given role endothelial cells BBB, we hypothesized that endothelial-specific expression recently described gene SIRT6 may exhibit protective properties stroke.SIRT6...
