Abstract We conduct a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of educational attainment (EA) in sample ~3 million individuals and identify 3,952 approximately uncorrelated genome-wide-significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A polygenic predictor, or index (PGI), explains 12–16% EA variance contributes to risk prediction for ten diseases. Direct effects (i.e., controlling parental PGIs) explain roughly half the PGI’s magnitude with other phenotypes. The correlation between mate-pair...
Currently, there is no single validated biomarker which can prognosticate survival in patients with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study examines the prognostic significance of four biomarkers: neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte (LMR), platelet (PLR) and advanced inflammation index (ALI) NSCLC.This aimed establish relationship between NLR, LMR, PLR, ALI overall (OS) at baseline post first cycle treatment using Cox univariate PH models. We also studied these...
Abstract Hand grip strength is a widely used proxy of muscular fitness, marker frailty, and predictor range morbidities all-cause mortality. To investigate the genetic determinants variation in strength, we perform large-scale discovery analysis combined sample 195,180 individuals identify 16 loci associated with ( P <5 × 10 −8 ) analyses. A number these contain genes implicated structure function skeletal muscle fibres ACTG1 ), neuronal maintenance signal transduction PEX14, TGFA, SYT1...
Elevated blood pressure is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and has substantial genetic contribution. Genetic variation influencing the potential to identify new pharmacological targets treatment of hypertension. To discover additional novel loci, we used 1000 Genomes Project–based imputation in 150 134 European ancestry individuals sought significant evidence independent replication further 228 245 individuals. We report 6 signals association or near HSPB7 , TNXB LRP12...
Educational attainment is associated with many health outcomes, including longevity. It also known to be substantially heritable. Here, we used data from three large genetic epidemiology cohort studies (Generation Scotland, n = ∼17,000; UK Biobank, ∼115,000; and the Estonian ∼6,000) test whether education-linked variants can predict lifespan length. We did so by using members' polygenic profile score for education their parents' Across cohorts, meta-analysis showed that a 1 SD higher was...
Type 2 diabetes is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Modifiable risk factors have been found to contribute up 60% of type risk. However, continues rise despite implementation interventions based on traditional factors. There a clear need identify additional for chronic disease prevention. The aim this study was examine the relationship between perceived stress onset, partition estimates into direct indirect effects.Women born in 1946-1951 (n = 12,844) completed surveys...
