Vaccination of healthcare workers (HCWs) reduces the risk occupational infections, prevents nosocomial transmission and maintains delivery during outbreaks. Despite European directive national legislation on workers' protection, immunization coverage among HCWs has often been very low. In light Italian National Plan 2012–2014 recommendations, aim this study was to assess levels factors influencing adherence vaccinations needed for in Puglia region, South Italy. The conducted using an...
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 2030 Agenda represent global development programs. Education can widen the acknowledgement of their relevance applications. This survey aims to assess awareness, knowledge attitudes towards SDGs sustainability among first-year students in nine Italian Universities. A Likert scale-based online questionnaire 70 items was compiled by from March July 2019. It examined expectations referred sustainable concepts, indicators documents/models accounting for...
The present study aimed to explore differences in COVID-19 outcomes between male and female cases the Apulian District of Foggia, Italy. We performed a retrospective epidemiological among all confirmed that occurred Foggia from 29 February 30 June 2020. surveillance data regional registry (GIAVA-COVID) were used. The main outcome measures proportion hospitalisations, virus clearance case fatality rate.A total 1175 (50.7% female; median age: 55 years) identified 131 tests performed....
To date there has been limited head-to-head evaluation of immune responses to different types COVID-19 vaccines. A real-world population-based longitudinal study was designed with the aim define magnitude and duration immunity induced by each four vaccines available in Italy at time this study. Overall, 2497 individuals were enrolled their first vaccination (T0). Vaccine-specific antibody over Comirnaty, Spikevax, Vaxzevria, Janssen Ad26.COV2.S heterologous compared up six months after...
Abstract Background From the initial stages of pandemic in early 2020, COVID-19-related olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions have been widely reported are emerging as one most frequent long-term sequelae SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, data regarding recovery sense smell taste lacking. This study aimed to characterize evolution up year after diagnosis self-reported COVID-19 cases. Methods Based on active surveillance platform Apulia region, Italy, we selected residents Foggia district who...
Despite Noroviruses (NV, previously "Norwalk-like viruses") being a leading cause of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks, the impact NV infection is at present unknown and little information available about strains circulating in Italy. In April 2002 an outbreak occurred province Bari (South-east Italy), involving several households.A retrospective cohort study was performed order to assess risk factors associated with illness. All households where case were included study. Faecal specimens...
In Italy, the introduction of Universal Varicella Vaccination (UVV) has been decided but postponed, as a national programme, until 2015, when data from Regions which have already implemented it will be available. Starting 2003, eight Italian (Basilicata, Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Apulia, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany and Veneto) progressively introduced UVV, in their immunization with different schedules children aged 13–15 months 5–6 years, currently two-dose schedule is adopted by all...
Building the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance network in Veterinary medicine (EARS-Vet) was proposed to strengthen One Health antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance approach.
Abstract Background Identifying healthcare workers (HCW) who have less awareness and knowledge on antibiotic use resistance represents a challenge for public health, since it might help the development of novel educational training initiatives tailored specific subgroups professionals. This work aims to compare knowledge, attitudes behaviors across different groups Italian HCW. Methods We used data from multi-country multi-professional survey launched by European Centre Disease Prevention...
Abstract Background RSV is a highly contagious pathogen that can cause severe disease in older adults. We assessed the burden among Methods present results from second season (1-Oct-2022/30-Apr-2023) of this ongoing prospective epidemiological study covering 3 consecutive seasons which adults aged ≥ 60 years 5 European countries were followed up for ARI symptoms 28 or 56 days if was not resolved by day (D)29. Medical conditions, nasal and throat swab samples RT-PCR detection other...
ABSTRACT Background The introduction of screening tests for Sars‐CoV‐2 has been an extraordinary prevention and control tool during the COVID‐19 pandemic. However, pandemic interventions, including vaccine mandates, induced refusal reactions in many people. To date, little information is available on levels acceptance practices by young population school settings. Objective objective this work to survey students' attitudes, behaviours emotions towards Covid‐19 means a participatory research...
The continuous emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants and subvariants poses significant public health challenges. latest designated subvariant JN.1, with all its descendants, shows more than 30 mutations in the spike gene. JN.1 has raised concerns due to genomic diversity potential enhance transmissibility immune evasion. This study aims analyse molecular characteristics JN.1-related lineages (JN.1*) identified Italy from October 2023 April 2024 evaluate neutralization activity against a subsample...
The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) serological markers VDRL positive subjects in a population refugees various nationalities, living Asylum Seeker Centre Bari Palese, Southern Italy. The carried out period May-July 2008 recruited only voluntarily enrolled healthy refugees. HBsAg, anti-HBc, anti-HCV anti-HIV virus antibodies were detected. syphilis screening also on serum samples.A total 529 refugees, 442 males...
In this work, we identified for the first time hepatitis E virus (HEV) in a pet house rabbit, an adult 7 years old female of domestic rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Importantly, resulting phylogenetic tree showed that HEV strain was closely related to human sequence; finding reawakens concerns regarding zoonotic risk represented by animals and expands spectrum potential source infection humans. Potential transmission humans should be taken into account.
Herpes Zoster (HZ) and its main complication, post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN), represent important public health issues because of their relevant burden among older adults. However, data on the epidemiology HZ PHN in Italy are very limited. A population-based study was performed by seeking for cases PHN, occurred period 2013-2015, clinical charts 56 General Practitioners working 4 Italian Regions (Liguria, Puglia, Toscana Veneto). The objective to estimate incidence proportion (at 1 3 mo from...
The ongoing outbreak of the Monkeypox virus (MPXV) is characterized by sustained human-to-human transmission, particularly among men who have sex with (MSM). aim study was to describe characteristics MPXV infection identified in Southern Italy. Clinical samples for each suspected case from 1 June August 2022 were tested MPXV, and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) performed on two strains. Ten cases identified: eight young adult males, including six MSMs, female. Nine subjects reported recent...

A higher percentage has been...
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) lung disease is characterized by high levels of cytokines and chemokines in the airways, producing chronic inflammation. Non-invasive biomarkers, which are also specific for inflammatory immune responses, urgently needed to identify exacerbations evaluate therapeutic efficacy. The aim this study association sputum exhaled breath condensate (EBC) biomarker changes with clinical exacerbation response therapy. We studied simultaneous presence concentration twelve growth...
